Rhinelander students compete at DECA State
From Feb. 24-26, 15 Rhinelander High School students competed at the Wisconsin DECA State Career Development Conference in Lake Geneva. DECA is an organization that helps prepare students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
Governor’s budget would boost resident deer hunting license fee by 91 percent
Faced with a deficit in the state Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Fish and Wildlife Account, Gov. Tony Evers has proposed in his 2025-27 budget to significantly boost the cost of hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses.
Construction begins
Crews from Musson Brothers of Rhinelander began some of the initial work last week on School District of Rhinelander facility upgrades approved by voters in a 2024 referendum. According to a district memo, work began to install new gas and electric service to the tech ed wing of the building.

Board denies sex offender’s request for exception to residency restriction
The City of Rhinelander’s Sex Offender Residency Review Board has denied an appeal filed by a 49-year-old Rhinelander woman who was seeking permission to move to a residence on Harvey Street. The decision was handed down on Thursday evening, Feb. 20, after a brief quasi-judicial hearing.
Sign of relief: Newbold town shop to get identifiable sign
Newbold town chairman Dan Hess said during a town board meeting on Feb. 27 people have been requesting the town shop have some sort of signage added to help identify the building off of Bridge Road.

Eagle River planning commission sends CUP application to city council
The developer of an apartment complex on Eagle River’s east side has submitted a conditional use permit (CUP) application to add more apartments to the project. The city’s planning commission voted on Feb. 6 to recommend to the city’s common council the issuance of that CUP allowing for the expansion.
