A couple of bad innings Monday ended the Rhinelander High School baseball team's Great Northern Conference championship chances. A couple of big innings Tuesday ensured the Hodags would finish second alone in the GNC.
Hodag netters send entire team to sectionals
The Hodags advanced all seven of their entries to sectionals and tied for first place in the WIAA Division 2 subsectional they hosted at the RHS tennis courts. The last time the Hodags accomplished that feat in the WIAA tournament was 1997.

Fresh off winning a fourth consecutive Great Northern Conference championship, the Rhinelander High School boys' tennis team stepped back on the courts Thursday.

Anna Sturzl and Alayna Franson each scored twice Tuesday as the Hodags clinched their sixth consecutive Great Northern Conference championship with a 4-1 win over Ashland at Ponzio Stadium on the Northland College campus in Ashland.
Hodag softball sweeps Antigo
Ivy Packard scored the winning run following a three-base error as the Hodags took the first game of a doubleheader, 3-2, over Antigo at Pioneer Park. Rhinelander went on to win the nightcap 5-1 in a game that was called in five innings due to lightning.

There is a reason that Antigo is the four-time defending Great Northern Conference baseball champions. Rhinelander High School found out why Tuesday evening as the two top teams in the conference squared off and Antigo pulled away late and won 7-2 at Kretz Brothers Park.
