Hodag hoops assistant Smith hired to lead rival Robins
Shaun Smith, who as served as a Hodag assistant coach the past three seasons, has been hired as the new head coach of the Red Robins. Antigo activities director Tom Schofield announced the hiring in a press release Monday.

Gehring to join WIAA staff
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association has announced the hiring of Melissa Gehring as an assistant director for the association. She will assume her role at the organization's headquarters on Aug. 1, 2022.
Rebels roll Crandon in rematch 10-0
Rhinelander broke things open with seven runs over its final two innings to defeat Crandon 10-0 in Great Northern Legion Conference play at Crandon High School Thursday.

Aschenbrenner tabbed as new RHS gymnastics head coach
Rhinelander High School will have a new coach leading its gymnastics program this coming winter, tabbing Rhinelander resident Kristina Aschenbrenner as the program's next head coach. RHS activities director Brian Paulson confirmed the hire to the River News this past Wednesday.

WIAA board approves winter sports changes
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control reviewed and acted on coaches' committee recommendations impacting winter sports, including significant Tournament Series changes in Wrestling at its meeting June 22.
Answering opportunity
Joe Schneider pushed across the go-ahead run with a single in the top of the sixth as Rhinelander rallied to defeat Merrill 6-5 at Stafford Field. Rhinelander won its home invite as the only 3-1 team in the five-team round robin tournament.

Jamison voted RHS baseball MVP, Joe Schneider wins Hodag Award
The numbers spoke for themselves for Rhinelander's Ryan Jamison this season. He was the Hodags' No. 1 pitcher, and top hitter. Not surprisingly, he was voted the RHS baseball team's most valuable player by his teammates.
Ring named Hodag tennis MVP
Senior Luke Ring, who ascended to the No. 1 singles position this spring for the Rhinelander High School boys' tennis team, was named the team's most valuable player Monday during the team's banquet in the RHS commons.
