Joan Nancy Martinson, age 90, of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully at home.
Born February 25, 1936, in Racine to Orvan and Molly (Adensen) Ulstad. She was a 1955 graduate of St. Catherine’s High School in Racine, and married Richard “Dick” Martinson in 1958. She was a homemaker who found joy in raising her three sons, and she and Dick moved to the Northwoods in 1987. Joan enjoyed many trips abroad with her sister, MaryJane, over the years, and with her dear friend Pat Beaufeaux.
She is survived by sons Richard “Rick” (Sherry) of Brussels, Rodney of Ashwaubenon, and Ronald “Ron” (Michelle) of Rhinelander; four grandchildren, Kelsey (Matt) McGee, Kyle (Jaclyn) Martinson, Jared Martinson and Haylee Martinson; and five great-grandchildren, Declan, Riley, Connor, Crew and Brayah; and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2009, her parents, and her sister.
The family wishes to deeply thank Roni, Robin, Patches, Megan and Kaylee for the excellent care, kindness and companionship they gave Joan in her final months of life, as well as Aspirus Hospice.
The visitation for Joan will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, located at 125 E. King Street, from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Fr. Ed Anderson.
Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Racine.
