The Rhinelander High School girls’ soccer team dominated Antigo 14-0 at Antigo High School on May 19. They scored early and often to outlast the Red Robins.

“The girls played really, really well as a team,” head coach Nathan Bates said. “They did a good job and we were pretty much able to get everybody from the JV and the varsity all quite a few minutes on the field this evening, so it was a fun night tonight. The girls had a good time and they played really well as a team.”

Seven different Hodags scored in the game, including goalkeeper Rylee Mickevicius, who was replaced in goal by Emily Ehrhardt mid-way through the first half.

Ella Miljevich scored the first five goals for the Hodags, including one just 34 seconds into the game on an assist from Kiley Pooch. Miljevich had eight goals total, seven of them coming in the first half.

Ella Heck assisted on three of Miljevich’s goals, and her three assists were a team-high in the game.

In the 18th minute, Lena Chiamulera gave the Hodags a 6-0 lead after a goal came off the foot of someone besides Miljevich.

Mickevicius then scored her goal at the 18:26 mark before another pair from Miljevich capped off the first half.

Not long into the second, Heck booted one in, and Gabby Wanta tallied another just over a minute later.

Pooch scored her goal in the 47th minute, while Paige Wanta scored the final goal on an assist from Kaylee Steinmetz.

“The girls did a lot,” Bates added. “We had a lot of opportunities on through-balls this evening, just a lot of good stuff this evening all in all. I mean, the girls just had a fun night tonight and they played really hard and they played as a team and the best part was, I mean, our JV, out of the 60 minutes of play played about 30 minutes. Pretty much the full JV squad was in for, you know, 30 minutes of the 60-minute game tonight so it was good to see they got a lot of minutes as well.”

The Hodags had a home match against Medford on Thursday after press time for this edition.

Rhinelander closes out the regular season at home against Mosinee on Tuesday.
