U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany of Minocqua (R-Wisconsin-7) has announced that he will forego a challenge to incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin next year and run for re-election instead.
Tiffany has been at the center of speculation about a potential run for months.
“After talking with my family, I have decided to run for re-election in Wisconsin’s Seventh District,” Tiffany said. “While Tammy Baldwin is vulnerable due to her record as a rubber stamp for President Biden, I can make the greatest impact continuing to serve the great people of Wisconsin in the House of Representatives.”
Tiffany stressed that he will continue to watchdog an administration that he views as irresponsible, and he said he will continue to stand up against the administration’s assault on fundamental rights.
“Let there be no doubt, I will continue to hold the Biden administration accountable for their fiscal recklessness, open border disaster, and the weaponization of the Justice Department against the American people,” he said.
“America and Wisconsin can do better than the current status quo. I look forward to working with our nominees for President and U.S. Senate to turn Wisconsin red in 2024.”
Tiffany is the second Republican congressman to decline to run against Baldwin.
Earlier this year, U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher also said he would run for re-election in Wisconsin’s eighth congressional district.
