Health emergency reported at Pelican Elementary

By the end of the day she was breathing a sigh of relief.
"As far as I've been able to ascertain, to this point, it went beautifully," she said. "We still have the afternoon transportation, but things went really well."
The lone moment of concern came at midday when a health emergency involving a 7-year-old student was reported at Pelican Elementary.
"That was handled fabulously," Jacobi said. "Our staff was prepared and the kids were never in danger. We have procedures in place, they were followed, and everything went extremely well. The child is fine and in the parents' care. I can't ask for anything better than that."
Jacobi said she would hold a debriefing with the Pelican administration and staff to review how the situation was handled and what, if anything, could be done to improve staff response in the future.
Due to medical privacy laws, she was unable to share any other information about the incident.
The district will have extra staff standing by at James Williams Middle School, which serves as the transportation hub for students who have to change buses, for the next few days to ensure students get where they are supposed to go in a timely manner. She said having extra staff on hand paid off on Thursday morning as there were no issues.
"I definitely think it will be today and tomorrow," she said. "Depending on how that goes, it could go into next week."
