For the second straight weekend, the Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team traveled south to face some strong competition as it gets set for the second half of the season.

The Rhinelander High School girls’ golf team traveled downstate Monday for a team-style event. Monday’s competition in Burlington was dubbed the Browns Lake Ryder Cup, though the format was a bit different than the actual Ryder Cup that will be contested this weekend between the United States and Europe on Long Island.

Hodags withstand late Hurricane gust, claim first win of season

Things seemed easy through three quarters last Friday night for the Rhinelander High School football team against Hayward, leading 28-6 and seemingly in control of the contest. Hodag harriers wind up 4th in both divisions

Rhinelander High School junior Avrom Barr held off a battle from Edgar’s Cade Koch and won the boys’ division of the Mosinee Invite cross country race Tuesday at Nine Mile Forest in Wausau. Barr led the Hodag boys to a fourth-place finish out of 10 qualifying teams. The Hodag girls also took fourth, with eight schools fielding enough runners to earn a team score in that division.

Hodag tennis gets back on track, wins four straight

After a string of difficult matches early last week, the Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team got just what the doctor ordered last Friday and again on Tuesday. The Hodags, bouncing back from a 5-2 loss to Wausau Newman last Thursday, won all three of their matches in a home quadrangular on Friday and then improved to 2-1 in Great Northern Conference play with a 7-0 sweep at Phillips on Tuesday.

Hodag volleyball goes 1-5 in Wisconsin Dells

The Rhinelander High School volleyball team won just one match last weekend, but it was enough to push the Hodags into the middle-tier bracket 24-team Friendship Tournament in Wisconsin Dells. That win was a three-set victory over Oshkosh North in Friday’s crossover pool. The Hodags closed out that day on a positive note after suffering straight-set losses to Dodgeland, Sevastopol and Auburndale earlier in the day. Rhinelander then lost both of its matches in bracket play Saturday, falling in straight sets to Cambridge and Riverdale.
