Hodag BMX readies to welcome hundreds of riders this weekend for Gold Cup district finals
Standing at the top of the hill, by the starting gate, Hodag BMX track operator and coach Robbie Deede feels young at heart. “When I’m out here, I’m 12 again,” he said. That was 27 years ago for Deede, now 39. He was around for the infancy of the track, located within Rhinelander’s West Side Park.

That claim will be put on the line Friday night against a team that has yet to win a game, but is favored to hoist the GNC trophy when all is said and done at the end of the regular season.

The Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team scored four podium finishes and took ninth overall in the Badger State Splash Invite Saturday, Aug. 29 hosted by Sun Prairie East High School at the Soderholm Aquatic Center on the UW-Madison Campus.

Hodags score 42 unanswered to beat Hayward 49-12
Ryley Hull returned an interception 93 yards for a score with no time remaining in the first half, and the momentum built from there. The Hodags dominated the second half and defeated Hayward 49-12 in non-conference play at Mike Webster Stadium.

The Rhinelander High School girls’ cross country team showed in its season opener it has all intentions of being a contender in the Great Northern Conference this season. The Hodag boys’ meanwhile, saw they have a ways to go if they want to unseat conference rival Lakeland.

The Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team cruised Thursday, Aug. 27 in its Great Northern Conference opener. The Hodags won all seven flights in straight sets and defeated Antigo 7-0 at the RHS tennis courts.

RHS girls swimmers break two records, finish 2nd at Hodag Relays
The Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team started its season on a strong note Wednesday, Aug. 26. The Hodags won three events, breaking two meet records in the process, as they came home second in the nine-team Hodag Relays at the Heck Family Community Pool.
