Mosinee outscored the Hodags 19-6 over the final 5 1/2 minutes and went on to win a battle for first place in the GNC 75-61 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
Mosinee pulls away from Lady Hodags in rematch
The second round between Rhinelander and Mosinee played out much like the first, and that spelled bad news for the Hodag girls’ basketball team. The offense went cold in the second half, and the game devolved into a foul fest late as Mosinee defeated Rhinelander 54-39 in Mosinee on Friday night.
Hodag hockey blanked by Lakeland, falls to 0-7 in GNC
The first two-thirds of the season has been full of growing pains and learning moments for a young Rhinelander High School boys’ hockey team. There were a lot more of those moments to be had Thursday, Jan. 15 in the final game of the first round of Great Northern Conference play.

The Rhinelander High School wrestling team made a run in the middle weights, but it was not enough to get past Lakeland as the T-Birds reclaimed the Handrick Hammer with a 58-23 win over the Hodags in Great Northern Conference play Thursday, Jan. 15 in Minocqua.

Aubryn Clark scored a game-high 22 points and Rhinelander stymied Lakeland’s offense in the second half — holding the T-Birds to only eight points after the break in a 53-29 win.
Hodag wrestlers compete in Merrill, Lakeland
It was a busy couple of days for the Rhinelander High School girls’ wrestling team. After finishing in the middle of the pack Saturday, Jan. 10 in the Bluejay Challenge in Merrill, the squad was back on the mat Monday, taking part in a make-up Great Northern/Wisconsin Valley challenge night at Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua.
Mosinee downs Hodag hockey, 8-1
The Rhinelander High School boys’ hockey team was not able to keep up with Mosinee’s offensive firepower Monday night. Tyler Baars scored four times and Mosinee peppered the Hodag net with nearly 60 shots as the Indians skated away with an 8-1 win at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.
Hodag swimmers take 7th in Ashwaubenon
The Rhinelander High School boys’ swim team got its first taste of some fast competition in a championship-style meet Saturday, Jan. 10, taking seventh out of 16 teams in the Jaguar Invite at Ashwaubenon High School.

Aubryn Clark became the sixth player in Hodag girls’ history to reach the 1,000-point mark for her high school career in Rhinelander’s 64-26 victory over the Merrill Bluejays Friday at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
