Amid struggles, Hodag fastpitch shows improvement

Following a 1-15 campaign in 2024, there wasn’t much direction for the Rhinelander High School softball team could go but up. The Hodags did make some strides this year, going 5-16 overall, but improvement was a struggle due to factors well outside the team’s control.

It turns out the Great Northern Conference title is not the only thing the Rhinelander and Lakeland girls’ soccer teams shared this season. The GNC co-champs also shared the conference’s top three awards, sharing offensive player, defensive player and coach of the year honors following a spilt decision by the conference coaches last week.
