Howard Young Medical Center launches local SANE program
Despite its prevalence, sexual violence is often under-reported in our local communities. Sexual violence is defined as forcing or manipulating an individual into unwanted sexual activity without their consent. According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), one in five women experience sexual violence during her lifetime, while one-third of female victims experience sexual violence between the ages of 11 and 17. Even so, it's estimated that less than 40 percent of victims report these crimes to authorities. (subscriber access)
