Eight James Williams Middle School student-athletes traveled to Phillips Saturday, Feb. 15 to compete in the Northern State Open powerlifting meet.
Youth Roundup: JWMS gymnasts end season on high note
The James Williams Middle School gymnastics team ended its 2014 season by posting its best score of the year in a triangular meet win over Minocqua-Hazelhurst-Lake Tomahawk and Antigo Monday at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
Rhinelander hosts squirt tourney
Fourteen squirt-level hockey teams took part in an invitational tournament Feb. 21-23 at the Rhinelander Ice Arena. The Rhinelander Ice Association's Squirt B team took third place in the green division, defeating Beaver Dam 3-2 in a shootout Sunday afternoon.

It was a full day of basketball Feb. 22 as the Rhinelander and D.C. Everest basketball programs took the court at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee.
Saying goodbye to the champs
When Dick Marks passed away Feb. 12 a final connection to one of Rhinelander's proudest athletic achievements died with him. Marks was the last surviving member of the 1939 Wisconsin state championship basketball team, the only Hodag squad to reach the mountaintop. (Subscriber access)

RHS dance team competes at nationals
The Rhinelander High School Dance Team competed at DX AmeriCup in Minneapolis Feb. 21-23. The Hodags placed third in Hip Hop and sixth in Pom, competing in the varsity small school division.

JWMS gymnasts win triangular at AV-W
The James Williams Middle School gymnastics team swept the top three positions in every event and cruised to an easy victory in a triangular Thursday at Arbor Vitae-Woodruff Elementary School.
Rhinelander Swim Club concludes season
Sixty-nine Rhinelander Swim Club members traveled to Tomahawk High School Feb. 1 and 2 for the Central Wisconsin Swim Conference Championship Meet. The Hodags took second place overall and a majority of the swimmers placed well in their individual events.
Part of the club
For a half century now, countless Hodag swimmers have started their careers in the pool by joining the Rhinelander Swim Club. It's become a Northwoods tradition, with several families taking part across generations.

The Rhinelander Basketball Association hosted a fifth and sixth-grade girls' basketball tournament Feb. 1 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
JWMS gymnasts win quad at Marshfield
The James Williams Middle School gymnastics team took first place Monday at a quadrangular meet in Marshfield. The Hodags scored 113.95 points. Marshfield (104.0), Mosinee (85.6) and Antigo (82.15) rounded out the field.
