Inconsistent Hodags fall to Rapids 53-35

The Lady Hodags started hot and led 13-8 early in the game, but Wisconsin Rapids went on a 22-4 run to end the first half and kept the home team at bay in the second half to win 53-35 Thursday night in Rhinelander.

MEDFORD - The drive for five has gone awry for the Rhinelander High School boys' basketball team. The Hodags' quest for a fifth straight Great Northern Conference championship all but came to an end Thursday night at Raider Hall as Rhinelander fell to first-place Medford 58-47.

In its first and only meeting of the season against Antigo, the Rhinelander High School boys' hockey team was not able to keep up with the ninth-ranked Red Robins, falling 6-0 Thursday night at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.

Eagles blank Northern Edge 6-0, clinch GNC share

The Rhinelander/Antigo girls' hockey team had no answer for goalie Erin Sparks and the Lakeland/Tomahawk co-op Saturday, falling to the Thunderbirds 3-0 at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.

Edge mauls Medford again

The Northern Edge jumped on the Raiders for four goals in the first period Thursday night and cruised to a 7-1 win over Medford Thursday at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.

Lakeland came up with a hard-working goal with 4:07 left in overtime as Kyle Wuestenhagen found a wide-open Max Wohlleber in front of the net as the Thunderbirds came away with a 3-2 win.

For the Rhinelander High School girls' basketball team, the second verse was the same as the first against Great Northern Conference-leading Lakeland.

Rhinelander's back in the race

Rhinelander held Mosinee to 34 percent shooting and had three players finish in double digits as it defeated the Indians 57-41 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
