This year we were blessed with not one or two, but three local games that were truly all-time greats and will be recalled just as vividly in 2028 as they were in 2018.

A year ago the Rhinelander/Northland Pines Alpine ski and snowboard team nearly won Northern Conference titles in boys' and girls' skiing, before fading to second place in both divisions. Last year's squad was a senior-laden team. This year, the Hodags are light on upperclassmen and light on numbers in general.

Rhinelander docks Ashland

Bryce Schickert converted a go-ahead three-point play with 29.5 seconds remaining and the Hodags edged the Ashland Oredockers 64-59 in a non-conference contest at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.

Hodag boys second, girls fourth at Lakeland Nordic Invite

The Hodags finished second in the boys' varsity division and fourth in the girls' varsity division of the four-team Lakeland Invite at Minocqua Winter Park on Tuesday.

Wisconsin Rapids had the Hodags' number again Saturday afternoon, scoring a couple of late second-period goals which proved to be the difference in a 4-1 contest at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.

Depth charge

Rhinelander's depth showed through Thursday night as the team posted a string of 1-2 finishes down the stretch to pull away from Lakeland and defeat the T-Birds 95-66 at the Heck Family Community Pool.

Madi Losch recorded a hat trick and had a hand in all seven goals as the Northern Edge pulled away to a 7-2 victory over the Raiders Thursday night at the Langlade County Multi-Purpose Building in Antigo.
