Team preview: RHS boys' hockey
With several pieces of last year's squad back, and bolstered depth courtesy of a number of players from a bantam squad that placed third at state a year ago, the RHS boys' hockey team has high expectations for the season.
Lady Hodags split Wausau road trip
The Hodags struggled against pressure last Tuesday as they fell on the road 63-35 at Wausau West. Things looked better on Friday night, however, as Rhinelander led buzzer to buzzer in a 67-48 win at Wausau East.

Frozen in time
The Hodag defense stopped Mosinee quarterback Michal Dul on a two-point conversion attempt with 1:31 remaining and Rhinelander capped its most successful season since 1989 with a 27-26 victory over the Indians in Level 2 of the WIAA football culminating event Thursday night at Mike Webster Stadium.

Hodags rally past Lakeland 27-20
The "Heart Attack Hodags" struck again Friday night. Quinn Lamers scored on a four-yard quarterback draw with 1:59 remaining and Rhinelander completed a wild comeback, defeating the Thunderbirds 27-20 at Mike Webster Stadium.
PLANNED TO PERFECTION
Rhinelander took a leap into legend and lore on this fateful Friday night. The Hodags won four events, placed in the top four in five others, and captured the WIAA Division 2 state championship hosted by Waukesha South High School.
12 Hodags honored on All-GNC football team
The Hodags had 12 team members named to the All-Great Northern Conference team, released Thursday. That's the most Rhinelander has had as a member of the GNC, surpassing the total of 11 players the Hodags had in 2012 and 2019.
STATE CHAMPIONS!
WAUKESHA - The Rhinelander High School girls' swim team made history Friday night. Malia Francis won two individual events, the Hodags won four events overall and Rhinelander claimed the WIAA Division 2 state championship at Waukesha South High School.
Rivalry and response
Despite losing the GNC championship game to Medford, not only were the Hodags a No. 1 seed for the two-week WIAA football culminating event, the team will have a second chance at an opportunity taken from them earlier in the season due to circumstances beyond its control.
