Spring sports will not officially start up until late April this year, but Rhinelander High School spring sports teams are using a one-year provision by the WIAA and their brand-new indoor facility to sharpen their skills over the next few weeks.

Despite all the challenges of the 2020-21 season, the Rhinelander High School Nordic ski team ended its year on a positive note over the weekend, improving on its performance at the Wisconsin Nordic Ski League state championship compared to a season ago.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control voted Friday, March 5 to advance three constitutional amendments to the annual meeting in May, approved three fast track and 8-player football conference realignment plans, as well as passing spring participation COVID-19 guidelines.

Team review: RHS girls' basketball

The Rhinelander High School girls' basketball team struggled to replicate the success of its 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. It was not for a lack of trying. The team got a career year out of senior Rebecca Lawrence as it went 11-14 overall, and 5-5 in the GNC.

Kate Vizanko named Northern Edge MVP

Lakeland senior Kate Vizanko took home MVP honors Thursday night as the Rhinelander/Antigo/Lakeland co-op put a bow on its season with a banquet held in the Rhinelander High School commons.

Hodag bowlers come full circle as they prepare for state tournament

The Rhinelander/Elcho/Three Lakes club bowling team will have four individual representatives at the Wisconsin High School Bowling Club state tournament at the Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley. Seniors Mackenzie Bourcier and Katrina McCarthy will make their final state appearance and will be joined by junior Kody Litzen and sophomore Cody Bednarz.

RHS skiers prep for delayed state Nordic races

The Rhinelander High School Nordic ski team looks a little different than the one that would have competed in Cable three weeks ago when the WNSL Championships were postponed due to frigid cold temps. This will be the team's first competition since Jan. 28 and the Northern Conference meet.

Team review: Northern Edge girls' hockey

The 2020-21 season for the Rhinelander/Antigo/Lakeland girls' hockey team featured more downs than ups. A lack of depth, particularly at goaltender, saw the Edge win only four games this season, after winning 13 the season before.

Rhinelander's Bishop finishes 20th on state balance beam

Bishop finished 20th out of 20 qualifiers in the event with a score of 7.25. The senior stated prior to the meet that she had nothing to lose in her final high school performance, and she added a few new skills to her routine.

Hodag bowlers solidify four state qualifying spots

The Rhinelander/Elcho/Three Lakes high school club bowling team dropped its final match of the season Sunday against Wittenberg-Birnamwood, but accomplished a bigger goal in the process. The team solidified individual state qualifying spot for four of its members in a 5-4 loss to the Chargers at Nick's Hodag Lanes.

The end of the road

Brady Hupf scored 21 points and the top-seeded Raiders again prevailed over the Hodags 64-54 in a WIAA Division 2 regional final Saturday night at Raider Hall.
