Attention turns to legion season for Rhinelander baseball
Fresh off the Rhinelander High School baseball team's trip to the WIAA sectional finals on Tuesday many of the same players swapped uniforms and pants to kick off a condensed American Legion baseball season for the Rhinelander Post 7 Rebels.
Sectional bound
Joe Schneider knocked in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning and Devyn Orth pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings as the Hodags recovered after squandering a 4-0 lead to defeat Shawano 5-4 and win a WIAA Division 2 regional title at Memorial Park.
Waksmonski: 'Not a lot to lose' for Hodags in sectionals
As the Hodags get set to take on Seymour this morning in a sectional semifinal contest in Wrightstown, skipper Joe Waksmonski said he hopes his team plays like it has nothing to lose.
Track: Worrall, Hodag high jumpers qualify for WIAA state meet
Cole Worrall was the sectional champion in the 110-meter hurdles and finished second in the 300 hurdles, while long jumpers Rebecca Lawrence and Jaden Beske both finished in the top three to advance to state at a WIAA D1 sectional in Schofield on Thursday.

Bixby's brilliance
Isaac Bixby pitched a gem, striking out eight in a four-hit shutout, and the Hodags scratched across a run in the fourth inning to defeat rival Antigo 1-0 Tuesday in a WIAA regional semifinal game at Stafford Field.
Hodag track advances nine entries to sectionals
The Hodag boys placed fourth overall and the Hodag girls were eighth in a WIAA Division 1 regional competition at D.C. Everest's Stiehm Stadium. Rhinelander was able to advance nine entries to the sectional round despite being the plus-one in what was essentially a reprise of the WVC meet.

Babe Ruth baseball returned to Rhinelander's Stafford Field on Monday following a 2020 season that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rhinelander defeated Eagle River 11-8 in Senior League play Monday, June 14 at the park.
