Elizabeth “Liz” Anne Neathery (Witherbee)

Elizabeth “Liz” Anne Neathery (Witherbee), born February 7, 1961, in Madison, passed away peacefully at home in Rhinelander on September 15, 2026, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous 14-month battle with cancer.

Liz lived a life defined by kindness, compassion, humor, and a genuine desire to care for others. She had a remarkable ability to remain calm under pressure and was someone people could depend on when they needed reassurance, a helping hand, or simply a reason to smile.

In 2006, Liz fulfilled a calling to care for others when she graduated as a registered nurse. Nursing was much more than a career to her. She deeply valued the relationships she built with her work family and took great pride in making a difference in the lives of her patients. Her compassion, steady presence, and kindness left a lasting impression on the people she cared for and those fortunate enough to work alongside her.

Outside of work, Liz found happiness in the people, animals, and simple pleasures that made life special. She loved her dogs, home-cooked meals, crafts, and the excitement of discovering unexpected treasures. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a way of finding joy in ordinary moments. Those who knew Liz will remember her for her kindness, her laughter, her calm strength, and the love she gave so freely to the people around her.

Liz is survived by her husband, Kenneth Neathery; her mother, Joan Witherbee; and her brother, Larry Witherbee Jr.

She is also survived by her son Eric Neathery and his wife, Kerryann Neathery; granddaughter Hailey Adams; and great-granddaughter Violet Adams.

Her daughter Jennifer Bates and her husband, Nathan Bates; and grandchildren Landon Bates and Addison Bates.

Her son Jacob Neathery and his partner, Megan Erickson, and their children, Blake Neathery, Ennabelle Neathery, Caydence Stadler, Amelia Neathery, Oliver Neathery, and Jack Neathery.

Liz was preceded in death by her father, Larry Witherbee Sr., and her grandson, Daisen Hollands, whose memory remained part of the family she loved so dearly.

Her family and friends will carry forward countless memories of her humor, kindness, strength, and love. Although her absence leaves an immeasurable space in the lives of those who loved her, the care she gave, the laughter she shared, and the difference she made in the lives of others will remain part of her legacy.

Liz was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.
