Paul J. Magnusen

Paul J. Magnusen, of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay. He was 59 years old.

Paul was born on October 12, 1966, in Highland Park, Illinois, the son of James and Catherine (O’Reilly) Magnusen. He attended Oconto Falls High School and graduated in 1985.

Following high school, Paul proudly joined the United States Navy. During his military service, he was stationed overseas, including in Europe and Japan, and served during Desert Storm. After receiving an honorable discharge, Paul returned home and began a career as a corrections, probation, and parole officer.

Paul had a deep love for the outdoors. During the winter months, he especially enjoyed skiing and snowmobiling, spending many winters snowmobiling throughout northern Wisconsin and Michigan. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially looked forward to hunting trips to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with his dad and friends.

When he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, Paul loved spending time with his family, particularly playing cards and making memories together. He was also a devoted Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed cheering on his favorite team.

Paul is survived by his mother, Catherine; his sister, Colleen (Alan) Kruzicki; his brother, Tim (Eva) Magnusen; two nieces; two nephews; and one great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father, James; his paternal grandparents, Alice and Lester Magnusen; and his maternal grandparents, Ellen and Peadar O’Reilly.

No formal services are planned for Paul at this time. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be left at shundafuneral.com.
