Paul was born in Rhinelander to Thomas R. Skubal and Elizabeth (Betty) Skubal. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and Rhinelander High School.
He enjoyed sports and played Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He also played basketball for the Hodags. As an adult Paul followed the Badgers, the Brewers and other sports teams.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Joseph E.A. Skubal and Anthony J. Skubal and is survived by his sisters Jacqueline M. Skubal (Jerry Whitman) of South Carolina, Ann Feeney (John) of Madison, brother Christopher Skubal (Mary) of New Brighton, Minn. and sister-in-law Debbie Skubal of Monona. He also has nieces and nephews: Jeff Skubal, Joe Skubal and Kelly Robinson, Dan Feeney, Godson and namesake Paul Feeney, and Beth Feeney, Jackie Peterman, Mike Skubal, and Thomas Skubal, Robert Skubal, Sarah Ryan, and Tessa Skubal. He also has nine great nieces and nephews.
As a young man Paul was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Over the years his condition improved with treatment and new medications. After the death of his dad, Paul lived near to his mother and took care of her until her death six years later. Since that time he has lived on his own and become a familiar figure either walking or riding his bike around the city.
In the early part of August he fell from his bike and sustained life threatening injuries. The family thanks Aspirus Hospital in Rhinelander, the trauma unit of the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Select Specialty Hospital in Madison, and Agrace Hospice in Madison for their care.
The people in the community who knew Paul considered him a quiet and dependable person. He lived a difficult but simple life and was a good man who will be greatly missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a donation to CureSZ, 675 Deis Drive, Suite N, Box 192, Fairfield, Ohio 45014 (Comprehensive Understanding Via Research and Education into Schizophrenia) or to an organization of your choice.
