Thomas “Tom” Plewa, 88 of Minocqua, passed away in his home on Tuesday, May 19. He was born November 14, 1937 in Milwaukee to Joseph and Helen (Grusczynski) Plewa. Tom served in the Army for two years as a heavy equipment operator and also worked in a foundry. He later began painting and because he had a great work ethic he decided that painting would be a good business.
He met and married his wife Carole on April 11, 1959 and had four children. In 1971 they moved to Minocqua where he started his painting business Plewa Painting and also owned and operated Knotty Pine Resort for many years.
Tom enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, bingo, the casino, watching sports and was an avid storyteller but mostly enjoyed spending time with his kids. He leaves his loved ones with a lifetime of cherished memories and will be greatly missed but we know he is home and reunited with his wife.
Survivors include his children Cherie Winquist of Star Lake, Deb Schenkenberg of Woodruff, Joe Plewa and Dawn (Jeff) Wendt both of Minocqua and his dear friend Sandy Derleth. He is further survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife Carole, parents Joseph and Helen and his seven siblings.
A visitation for Tom will be held on Friday, May 29 at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. with a funeral service at 5 p.m. and reception to follow. Burial will take place on Saturday, May 30 at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Woodruff.
Online condolences may be shared at www.nimsgernfuneral.com. Nimsgern Funeral & Cremation Services is serving the family.
