Rhinelander Housing Authority bids Fralick farewell, welcomes Showalter
The Rhinelander Housing Authority board of commissioners saw off commissioner Melanie Fralick at their regular bimonthly meeting May 19 at Evergreen Manor.
“She chose to resign. She's on several committees in town,” RHA executive director Janell Schroeder told the Northwoods River News.
Coming aboard will be new commissioner Connor Showalter, who was appointed by the city and will begin with the board’s next meeting.
Officers were also elected at the meeting, with current chairperson Carol Kelly and current vice-chair Mary Ticknor both re-elected.
The board also took action on an offer received from a developer to purchase two acres behind Historic West Elementary.
“The developer was hoping to put some more housing back there,” explained Schroeder. “The appraisers that we contacted said they really couldn't find any good comparables to give us to let us know if it was a reasonable offer.
“And so we ended up consulting with a realtor. We got an update from that realtor, and the board did vote that we're not going to sell.”
Among other highlights of the meeting, the board:
• Approved updating both the Evergreen Manor Security Deposit Addendum and Historic West Elementary Security Deposit Addendum documents which list some rates not updated since 2018.
• Approved updating some wording in the Tenant Selection Plan, which was last updated in 2007.
• Heard that a tenant has moved out of Evergreen Manor after a court-ordered eviction.
The next meeting of the Rhinelander Housing Authority’s board of commissioners will be at Evergreen Manor on Tuesday, July 21, at 9:30 a.m.
