A convicted sex offender was released from prison on Tuesday, May 19, and will reside in Oneida County.
Skyler H. Sann, 32, was released as homeless within the county and monitored by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Probation and Parole in Rhinelander in correlation with the sex offender monitoring program at the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. In a press release from the the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, it was explained the sheriff’s office has no legal authority to direct where a sex offender may live.
“The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office role is to provide information to the public in an attempt to ensure safe neighborhoods when a sex offender is released or transferred into the community in accordance with Wisconsin State Statute 301.46(2m),” the press release stated.
Sann is not a lifetime sex offender registrant; his registration ends in 2041.
He will be mandated to be on GPS monitoring while listed as homeless.
Sann was convicted in a 2020 Oneida County case of one count of possession of child pornography.
In that case, the Rhinelander police department was contacted after an individual found a cellular device owned by Sann with suspected child pornography on it.
A search warrant was obtained and found on the device were various nude images of pubescent and prepubescent females in sexually explicit positions as well as performing various sex acts with adults.
During a search of Sann’s residence a child-sized sex doll was also located by law enforcement.
He has conditions to follow while on supervision which include:
• No unsupervised contact with minors.
• He must comply with standard sex offender rules, cooperate with electronic monitoring and comply with all requirements set in place for registrants of the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry.
“Again, the purpose of this notification is to ensure safe neighborhoods by informing the public when a sex offender is released or transferred into the community,” the press release stated.
Any questions may be directed to Detective Sergeant Gary Loduha, 715-361-5163.
