Special Olympians compete at regional track meet

The Rhinelander Area 2-05 Special Olympics team competed Saturday, May 9 at the region 2/3 regional track and field event in Colby. Nine athletes competed, with results as follows:

Maria Dornfeld — 4th 50-meter run, 2nd softball throw, 2nd standing long jump.

Aaron Hass — 4th 100 walk, 3rd mini-javelin, 5th shot put.

Charles Moritz — 6th 100 run, 6th long jump, 4th mini-javelin.

Daniel Strutz — 3rd 100 run, 5th 200 run, 4th long jump.

Jonathan Erickson — 4th 100 run, 2nd softball throw, 2nd standing long jump.

Ashley Mathy — 3rd 100 run, 5th 200 M run, 1st softball throw.

Daray Hawes — 5th 100 run, 1st softball throw, 6th standing long jump.

Jonathan Ankrom — 7th 100 run, 7th softball throw, 6th standing long jump.

Miguel Gonzalez — 6th 100 run, 5th softball throw, 2nd standing long jump.

Based on their regional performances, Dornfeld, Hass, Strutz, Mathy and Hawes have advanced to the Wisconsin state Special Olympics track meet June 4-6 at UW-Whitewater.
