YMCA and Health in Motion present workshop May 20

The YMCA of the Northwoods, in partnership with Health In Motion, is offering a series of free educational workshops open to the community. The next session, “Understanding Pain,” will take place on Wednesday, May 20, at noon in the Gale & Dale Willcox Gathering Room at the Beck Family YMCA in Rhinelander.

The workshop will be led by Ryan Schouweiler, DPT, and will explore how pain works in the body. Participants will learn that pain does not always indicate physical damage, and that imaging such as MRIs and X-rays may not tell the full story. In some cases, pain persists because the nervous system becomes overly protective and increasingly sensitive over time.

This session will highlight how education and movement can play a key role in reducing pain and improving daily function. Attendees will gain practical, science-based strategies to help retrain the nervous system, decrease sensitivity, and build confidence in movement. The workshop will also outline simple, effective steps individuals can take to better understand and manage their pain.

Space is limited, and registration is recommended. To register, call 715-362-9622.
