RHS Sports recap: Monday, May 11
Baseball: Rhinelander 3, Merrill 1
The Rhinelander High School baseball team clinched a share of their first GNC title in 14 years after defeating the Merrill Blue Jays 3-1 at Athletic Park in Merrill on May 11.
Freshmen Blake Bauer and Jaxon West both recorded their first varsity hit for the Hodags, and Vince White cranked a home run. West, along with Sawyer Bishop, were both 2-for-3 in the game while three Hodag RBIs came from White, Jackson Waydick and Charlie Johnson.
White pitched six innings for Rhinelander, before he was relieved by Johnson when he reached the pitch count limit. He gave up six hits on one earned run, striking out 12 and walking two.
The No. 2 ranked Hodags (13-0, 11-0 GNC) will travel to Mosinee on May 14. A win over the Indians would make Rhinelander outright GNC champions.
Softball: Medford 11, Rhinelander 0
The Rhinelander High School softball team lost 11-0 in five innings to undefeated Medford at Medford High School on May 11.
The Hodags couldn't find any gaps in the field and recorded zero hits against Medford pitcher Rylee Hraby.

Rhinelander will host Merrill at the Haug Family Softball Complex May 12.
