Clara Jane Weber-Pond-Curran (Harris) who was also affectionately known as “Honkin’ Grandma,” “Grandma Dirt,” or “Grandma Rex” by those who knew and loved her was called home on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Born to Aubrey and Margaret Harris on September 22, 1946, Clara was known by many in her later years for her sewing skills. She poured her heart and soul into her business “Clara’s Country Sewing” for many years before she and her husband, Dan, made the decision to head south for warmer weather.
Over the years she shared her love for cooking, tried to teach those she loved how to sew (some learned, others, not so much) and enjoyed making memories with those she loved. Her beloved “Hippie Van” held many stories, secrets and adventures of trips near and far. Camping trips, exploring new places, and sharing casino trips with Dan were among her favorite past times. She also had a knack for decorating, her love for Hobby Lobby apparent as she had the house decked out for each holiday. In addition to a love for decorating, she embraced the mindset of “I need something on Amazon today, I don’t know what it is, but I’ll figure it out.”
She was fierce, loving, and without question full of sass. A drawn out “what?” was a response that echoed regularly because she never knew where her hearing aids were. We would often joke — is it that she can’t hear us, or is she choosing to act as though she can’t hear us? Either way, the lingering “what?” will be heard by all who knew and loved her for years to come. Although the phrase that she utilized to capture so many emotions will live on longer, so as you read through this just remember “merciful!” (She wouldn’t want us to be sad, so surely, if that brought a smile to your face, it worked as intended.)
Clara is survived by her husband Daniel (Dan) Curran, as well as her children, Laurie (Jerry) St. Peter, Jeff (Tammy) Weber, Shelly Schulz, as well as Dan’s children Beth (Mike) Bruegger, Scott (Dawn) Curran, and Julie (Dave) Tranchita. Also surviving are her siblings Lois (Skip) Erickson, June Landru, and Eugene (Lori) Harris. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and what will soon be three great-great-grandchildren.
Upon her welcome to Heaven, she will be reunited with her parents, Aubrey and Margaret Harris, her daughter Annette (Weber) (lovingly known to all who knew her as “Nummy”) as well as her brother-in-law Jim and many other loved ones who have passed before her.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital, Brooksville, Fla. for all they did in Clara’s final days.
A celebration of life has been planned for Saturday, May 16 at noon at Weber-Hill & Packard Funeral Home in Crandon. Visitation will precede services at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to noon. Inurnment will follow at Crandon Lakeside Cemetery.
