Youth in Governance Program open to teens in Oneida County
Oneida County 4-H is now inviting high school students from throughout Oneida County to apply for the 2026 Oneida County Youth in Governance Program, a hands-on civic leadership experience that places teens directly on Oneida County Board committees as youth representatives. The program gives young people a meaningful way to learn how local government works while developing the communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills they need for future success.
Youth representatives attend monthly committee meetings, participate in orientation and courthouse training, and work closely with a county board supervisor who serves as their mentor. Students gain firsthand experience with real community issues, public decision-making, and the responsibilities of local government.
The program is open to high-school-aged youth who live in Oneida County. There is no cost to participate, and no prior leadership or government experience is required — just an interest in learning and a willingness to engage.
Parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, and community members are encouraged to share this opportunity with teens who are curious about leadership, public service, or how their community works. Participation in Youth in Governance strengthens resumes, scholarship applications, and career readiness while helping young people build confidence and civic awareness.
Applications will be available online at oneida.extension.wisc.edu/ocyg or by calling 715-365-2750.
