RHS Sports recap: Monday, May 4
Baseball: Rhinelander 9, Wausau East 2
Jackson Waydick had three hits, three RBIs and pitched five innings Monday as the Rhinelander High School baseball team remained perfect on the season with a 9-2 win in non-conference play at Wausau East.
Waydick finished a triple short of the cycle, that included a two-run home run as part of a five-run first inning for the Hodags. Rhinelander tacked on three more runs in the fifth and another in the sixth as they outhit the Lumberjacks 11-6 in the contest. Rowan Wiczek and Sawyer Bishop each had two hits in the contest and Vince White added a pair of RBIs.
Waydick gave up two unearned runs in the fifth, scattered five hits, walked four and struck out six in the win. Wiczek struck out five and allowed one hit as he worked the sixth and seventh scoreless.
Rhinelander (10-0, 8-0 Great Northern) travels to Antigo on Tuesday.
Boys’ tennis: Rhinelander 1-1, D.C. Everest Triangular
The Rhinelander High School boys’ tennis team split its matches Monday in a triangular at D.C. Everest High School, defeating Everest 4-3 and falling to Eau Claire North 5-2.
Calvin Loomis was the only Hodag to win both of his matches on Tuesday, earning a pair of match tiebreak wins at No. 2 singles. Roan Childs/Owen Evers won in a tiebreak at No. 3 doubles against Eau Claire North.
Asher Rivord (No. 1) and Aidan Lueder (No. 3) added wins in singles play against D.C. Everest while Brayden Barnhill and Kellen O’Malley won at No. 2 doubles.
Rhinelander (11-6, 3-0 Great Northern) will host Stevens Point Tuesday.
