A Chicago man will be sentenced next month for his role in an armed robbery in the area of Thies Road and Lorann Drive in Woodruff in mid-January, 2024.
As part of a plea agreement, Oscar Resendiz, 34, was found guilty in Oneida County court by Oneida County judge Mary Sowinski on April 28 of armed robbery and battery.
The first charge carries a penalty of up to 40 years in prison or a fine up to $100,000 or both and Resendiz faces up to three years in prison or up to $10,000 in fines or both on the battery charge.
Three other charges, two for theft and one for false imprisonment, were dismissed by Sowinski as part of the plea deal.
According to Christine Jolin, Resendiz’s attorney, he’s made $6,000 in restitution to the this point.
Sowinski advised Oneida County assistant district attorney Ben Meyer that documentation of the balance of restitution owed by Resendiz to victims is to be received by the court and Jolin by May 22. Sowinski set the date for Resendiz’s restitution and sentencing hearing for June 18.
The charges are related to an incident involving the alleged theft from and beating of a manager of El Tarasco Mexican Restaurant in Minocqua on Jan. 12, 2024.
Resendiz managed to flee the area but following months of extensive investigation by detectives with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, a warrant was issued for his arrest on July 29, 2024.
According to Oneida County court records, Oneida County was notified Resendiz was in the custody of Illinois authorities and the warrant issued in July of 2024 was updated and he was brought to the Oneida County jail.
Oneida County authorities report that the location of Uvaldo Areola Garsias, identified as Resendiz’s alleged accomplice and a non‑U.S. citizen, remains unknown.
