Road and bridge repairs begin soon for U.S. 51 in Nokomis and Woodboro
To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $2.8 million contract to improve U.S. Highway 51 between U.S. Highway 8 and County Highway L in the towns of Nokomis and Woodboro, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Friday, March 20. Work is scheduled to begin in April.
Chippewa Concrete Services is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will repair concrete pavement, resurface the asphalt lanes and shoulders, and complete bridge repair work, including application of a surface treatment to the bridges.
During construction, Hwy. 51 will be closed until Memorial Day. The detour route will be Hwy. 8 to State Highway 47. After Memorial Day, the remaining work will be done under traffic. Motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations and single-lane closures.
Construction is scheduled for completion by Sept. 15, with the schedule dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
This project is not associated with the proposed roundabout at Hwy. 51 and County K/Swamp Lake Road in Oneida County being developed for construction in 2027.
