RHS Sports recap: Friday, March 20
Track: RHS boys 5th/15, girls 11th/15, Princeton/Green Lake Invite
The Rhinelander High School track team took a handful of athletes to Ripon College Friday for the Princeton/Green Lake Invite. With most of the team unavailable during spring break, the Hodags boys took fifth out of 15 teams while the Hodag girls finished 11th.
Matthew Haselton scored for the Hodags in four events, taking third in the 200 meters, seventh in the triple jump and eighth in the 60-meter dash. He was also part of a sixth-place finish in the 4x200. The boys’ best finish was a runner-up showing in the 4x800 with Dean Gillingham, Jonathan Campbell, Michael Brunette and Paul Denis. Gillingham was third in the 1,600 and Denis took fourth in the pole vault.
On the girls’ side freshman Marsadies Williams scored in all four of her events, taking third in the long jump, sixth in both the 200 meters and the pole vault and seventh in the 60 meters. Kara Monk was the runner-up in the 1,600 and Libbey Buchmann was third in the shot put.
The Hodags will be back in action Tuesday at Ashland.
