Robert "Bob" Kolstad, 75, of Wasilla, Alaska, passed away peacefully in his beautiful home, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born in Rhinelander, and attended Rhinelander High School. Bob enlisted in the Army in April 1970. He wanted and was ready to go to war, having all his jungle gear packed. Then President Nixon withdrew the troops the day Bob was to go to Vietnam.
In 1985, Bob and Lori moved to Alaska. He was interested in finding logging jobs. In 1988, he married Lori Boach, and they moved to Cordova, Alaska, where Bob worked for Whitestone Logging. They then moved to Wasilla in the Mat-Su Valley and had a new house built. For the next 27 years, Bob worked on the North Slope.
In 2019, he retired, employed by Worley Alaska. Bob loved working in the woods and did so after retirement. He loved felling trees, skidding logs, and running his sawmill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lorraine Kolstad. Bob is survived by his wife Lori and his two sons, Luke and Marcus of Wasilla, Alaska, his brother Kent and Marie Kolstad, and nieces and nephews of Oconomowoc.
We will have a celebration of life for Bob at a later date amongst family and friends in Wisconsin.
