Douglas H. Rathbun, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, left this world on March 10, 2026, in Merrill, at the age of 91. Born on August 24, 1934, in Genoa City, Douglas lived a life rich with love, work, and cherished memories.

Known affectionately by friends and family as "Sug," Douglas spent his career as a carpenter, dedicating many years to honing his craft. He poured his heart into every project, demonstrating not just skill, but a deep appreciation for the art of building and creating. After retiring, he settled in Rhinelander, where he continued to embrace life surrounded by nature and the warmth of community.

In 1955, Douglas married the love of his life, Jacqueline A. Koehn. Their union flourished as they built a life together filled with laughter, resilience, and love. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Timmy, Tammy and Scott.

Douglas also had a passion for fishing, a cherished activity that allowed him to connect deeply with the outdoors and share precious moments with his family. Many joyful memories were created on fishing trips, where laughter echoed and stories were shared, solidifying bonds that the family will forever hold dear.

His proudest accomplishment came when he purchased the Congo Schoolhouse in Bloomfield (Genoa City) and transformed it into a loving home for his family. His dedication to remodeling the structure and creating a warm environment for his children to grow.

Douglas proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army after being drafted in 1957. Following his honorable discharge in 1959, he carried with him the values of dedication and service throughout his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jacqueline A. Rathbun; cherished children, Timmy (Deena) Rathbun, Tammy Haase, and his dear brother, Robert (Christl) Rathbun. Douglas was a proud grandfather to Michael (RaeAnne) Rathbun, Tiffany (Ken) Tupa, Jon Haase, and Jackie Bettack. He was also a great-grandfather to Eliza, Vontay, Abel, Bentley, Owen, Mason, Miyah, Wade Douglas, Collin, Coltin, and "Izzie." His loving caring neighbors Dick, Lisa and John.

Douglas is also preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Rathbun, and sister, Virginia.
