Five Hodag bowlers finish in the money at D9 singles tournament

Five Rhinelander Area Youth Bowling Club members placed in the top six of their respective flights and earned money contributed to their bowling scholarship accounts during the Wisconsin High School Bowling Club’s District 9 singles tournament held Feb. 27 to March 1 at Nick’s Hodag Lanes in Rhinelander.

Competitors were split into one of seven divisions — four high school divisions and three middle school divisions — based on age and their Baker Equivalency Rating over the course of the D9 regular season. From there, each bowler bowled a four-game series, with the top six in each division splitting $1,200.

Three Lakes bowler Oren Alsager, finished in the money in the top-tier Division A, earning $125 of scholarship money with his four-game total of 911 pins. He was only one of seven bowlers to break 900 in the division and finished 77 pins behind overall winner Talan Pockat of Lakeland. 

Rhinelander freshman Eli Miller cashed in with a runner-up finish in Division B. His total was 857 as he earned $275.

Senior Leander Sprecksel also earned $275 with a runner-up finish in Division D (732) while teammate Silas Johnson came home third in the flight (707). Xane Kallio was Rhinelander’s only place winner in the middle school divisions. He placed fifth in Division G, and took home $125, was a four-game series of 562.

Also competing over the weekend for the Hodags were Dominic Hakala (16th, 777) and Blake Klingen (T-19th, 719) in Division A; Jackson Fuss (17th, 673), Charlie Duquaine (19th, 651), Oliver Doppke (20th, 644) and Alyssa Habeck (25th, 568) in Division C; Brighton Walkowski (9th, 520) in Division D; Natalie Dellenbach (11th, 684) and Charlotte Preuss (11th, 654) in Division E; and Maggie Campbell (8th, 492) and Haylee Anderson (14th, 391) in Division G.

In total 142 bowlers took part in the tournament, competing in three separate shifts. D9 awarded $8,400 in scholarship money during the tournament.
