Boys’ basketball: Menomonie 65, Rhinelander 51
The season ended for the Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team and Menomonie pulled away late and defeated the Hodags 65-51 in a WIAA Division 2 regional final game at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
The Hodags led 38-32 with 8:50 remaining, but the Mustangs went on a 24-6 run from there to seize control and salted the game away thanks to a 15-point, and 23-shot, disparity from the foul line.
Trevor Robert scored 17 of his game-high 23 points for Menomonie in the second half, leading three Mustangs in double figures. Abe Gretzinger had 11 points for Rhinelander as the Hodags were held to 40% shooting on the night and committed 21 turnovers.
Rhinelander finishes the season with a 22-4 record.
Gymnastics: Rhinelander at WIAA D2 State Meet
The Rhinelander High School gymnastics team concluded its season Saturday with the individual portion of the WIAA state meet in Wisconsin Rapids.
Junior Emeline Hintz took 23th in the individual-all around with a score of 31.9667 points. She also scored a 12th-place finish in the lone event competition she qualified for, balance beam (8.5333).
Freshman Marsadies Williams was 24th in both of her events on the day, scoring a 7.4333 on uneven bars and a 6.9667 on balance beam. Junior Alexis Smith tied for 19th on the vault with an 8.4667.
