Peewee 3B state tournament comes to Rhinelander this weekend
The Rhinelander Ice Association’s Peewee B team will host the WAHA Peewee 3B state tournament Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 at the Rhinelander Ice Arena. (Contributed photograph)The Rhinelander Ice Association will host the WAHA Class 3B Peewee State Tournament Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 at the Rhinelander Ice Arena. Eight teams from around the state will be vying for the championship. Each team will play twice on Saturday to determine the order for the placement games on Sunday.
Rhinelander gained automatic entry into the tournament as the host team and received the seventh seed for the event. They will open the tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday against second-seeded West Salem. Somerset vs. Shawano, Sauk Prairie vs. Barron/Chetek and Marshfield vs. Waupun will round out quarterfinal play. Consolation semifinals will take place at 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday with the semifinal games at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Play Sunday will begin with the seventh-place game at 8 a.m., followed by the consolation championship game at 9:45, the third-place game at 11:30 a.m. and the championship game at 1:15.
Peewee As hold tourney
The Rhinelander Ice Association held its annual Peewee A/B tournament at the Rhinelander Ice Arena Friday, Feb. 27 to Sunday, March 1. The Hodags went 2-2, with a pair of 5-4 wins over Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells.

Middle School gymnastics
The James Williams Middle School gymnastics team concluded its season Monday, Feb. 23 with a four-team meet at the Beck Family YMCA Monday, Feb. 23.
The team competed against Antigo, Lakeland, and Wisconsin Rapids. Rhinelander’s A team scored 112.25 and the B team had a score of 131.
Individually in the A division, Eliza Halada and Helina Gurskey tied for first on the balance beam while Halada added a third-place finial on the vault and was second in the all-around.
In the B division, Evie Olson was tops on the vault and the floor exercise as she took first in the all-around. Khloe Skubal added a win on the uneven bars and Rachel Bidell was third on the balance beam.
