The students of JWMS 6th-8th grade art teacher Brian Carpenter were encouraged to create ideas for their posters using this year’s contest theme, “Soil. Where it all Begins.”

In the judging, posters were evaluated on their conservation message, visual effectiveness, originality, universal appeal and individual artwork.

Recognized as Best of Show after winning her grade category was the poster of JWMS seventh grader Makenzie Metzer.

Her poster is currently at the state competition, to be judged March 4 at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells.

Completing the top three in the local seventh-grade category were the posters by Metzer’s classmates Baya Wyss, second, and Rachel Bidell, third. All three were awarded trophies.

Receiving honorable mention ribbons were the sixth-grade entries of Harper Lee and Jadyn Lange, and the seventh-grade entries of Ashlynn Hull and Channing Waksmonski.
