Thomas “Tom” Charles Chariton, 69, of Sugar Camp, passed away at home on Saturday morning, July 25, 2026.

Tom was born in Rhinelander on March 8, 1957, to William J. and Eleanor G. (Erickson) Chariton. He was raised in Rhinelander, where he attended Rhinelander Public Schools. At the age of seventeen, Tom enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany. He later served for several years in the National Guard. Tom married Charlotte Huybers in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1992. He was employed as an over-the-road trucker and later was employed at Sowinski’s Potato Farm.

Tom loved playing hockey. He played while in high school and later with the over-30 hockey club.

Tom enjoyed fishing trips with family to Canada, snowmobiling, and over-the-road trips with his dog.

Tom was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of thirty-three years, Charlotte; grandson, Aaron Rowe; stepson, Clayton (Robin) Sweo; siblings, Sue (Dave) Selby of Phelps, Jack (Denise) Chariton of Rhinelander, and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Chariton of McAllen, Texas. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Larry Chariton and Gary “Satch” Chariton.

The visitation for Tom will take place on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 320 Lincoln Street, Rhinelander, from noon until the 1 p.m. Memorial Service. Pastor Rod Ankrom will officiate.

Immediately following the service, military honors will be conducted by the Northwoods Honor Guard and two representatives from the United States Army.

At the conclusion of military honors, everyone is invited to join the family in the church hall for a funeral luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Tom may be given to the Oneida County Humane Society, 1852 N. Stevens Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, as Tom so loved pets.
