Sandra J. McKitrick

Sandra J. McKitrick, age 77, of Rhinelander, died unexpectedly on July 14, 2026, at her home. She was born on October 4, 1948 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin the daughter of Paul and Marjorie (Plinske) Aumann. Sandra’s survivors include her husband Dr. Larry McKitrick, her sons Thomas (Charlene) McKitrick of Richibucto, New Brunswick Canada; and Scott McKitrick of Rhinelander, and her grandchildren Haley and Scott McKitrick also of Richibucto. She is also survived by two brothers, Jon Aumann of Eau Claire, WI and Mark Aumann of Wauwatosa, WI.

While growing up in Manitowoc Sandy developed her fondness for music and enjoyed the annual family fishing vacations at Plum Lake. Sandy graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc in 1966 before attending the University of Wisconsin at the Manitowoc and Madison campuses. She married Larry McKitrick on May 9, 1969 in Manitowoc before they moved to Davenport, Iowa where Larry attended chiropractic college. They moved to Rhinelander in 1972 where Sandy managed The McKitrick Chiropractic Office. She was an active member of the Jaycettes and the First Congregational United Church of Christ where she sang in the choir, served on numerous committees and boards and later served as moderator. Sandy also wrote articles for the church newsletter on a regular basis about environmental issues. She was a member of the Northwoods String Ensemble and served as Treasurer of the Crescent Lake Association for several years as well as volunteering as a boat landing monitor for invasive species.

She enjoyed living on Crescent Lake for 50 years where she hosted many family members and friends. Listening to the birds, loons and tending her flowers was relaxing and enjoyable. She and Larry also hosted several foreign exchange students several have returned to visit over the years. Sandy was looking forward to visiting with Balazs Szekely, from Budapest Hungary, again. He will be here visiting with his 16 year old daughter this coming Aug. 2 to 11.

Sandy was always involved with music, whether it be playing the piano, the violin or singing in the choir or solos for funerals. She enjoyed traveling, seeing and learning about various places and historic events. She was very concerned about our country’s future. Sandy was a good writer, advisor, gardener, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed.

A visitation for Sandy will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with Memorial Services following at 11:00 AM, all at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Reverend Tim Grade will be officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. You may leave you private condolences for the McKitrick family at www.carlsonfh.com.
