Richard V. “Dick” Fuhrman, age 91 of Hazelhurst, passed away peacefully at Marshfield Medical Center, Marshfield, on July 10, 2026 with family by his side. Dick was born on February 3, 1935 in Birch, the son of Edward and Augusta (nee Lukaszewski) Fuhrman. When he was young, they lived at the Sante farm in Hazelhurst where his parents were caretakers. Dick graduated from Minocqua High School, and a few years later married Sandra Kuckkahn in 1956. They raised four children.

Some would say dirt was in Dick’s blood. As a young man he joined the excavating business with his father Ed and brother Paul. A few years after that he worked for Gustafson Logging for a few years and then started Fuhrman Bulldozing, which he successfully ran for over 40 years.

Dick served his community for 41 years on the Hazelhurst Volunteer Fire Department, and over 55 years with the Hazelhurst Lions Club. He was proud to have donated many gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.

For fun Dick enjoyed fishing of all sorts, especially on Lake Superior. Taking charter trips with friends and family on the big lake eventually led him to buy his own boat for fishing out of L’Anse, Mich., Saxon, and later his second boat in Washburn. Dick also enjoyed grouse and deer hunting. Later in life he enjoyed rides to the “shack,” watching all sports, and an occasional old fashioned.

Dick is survived by his children, Laurie Fuhrman Ellingsrud (Mark), Rick Fuhrman (Laura), Kerri Fuhrman (Al), Andrea Fuhrman Mikkelson. He is further survived by his grandchildren Jake Wheeler (Sharyn), Mollee Fuhrman, Gage Mikkelson, Kali Tornow (Luke), Ben Mikkelson, Sam Fuhrman (Loryn). Great-grandchildren Gavin, Bridget, Harper, Ty, Dakota, companion Annette Ritter. Siblings, Shirley Johnson, Carol Cleveland (Bill), Ed Fuhrman Jr. (Jan), Pat Fuhrman (Brenda), and many nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Augusta Fuhrman, sisters Bonnie Haugen, Florence Benzschawel and brother Paul Fuhrman Sr.

Memorial Gathering for Dick will be held on Friday, July 24, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, with a Memorial Service at 5 p.m. and reception to follow.
