RHS Sports recap: Saturday, Jan. 31
Boys’ hockey: Ashland 7, Rhinelander 1
The Rhinelander High School boys’ hockey team fell to Ashland 7-1 Saturday afternoon at Rhinelander Ice Arena.
Ashland led 3-1 after a period, added three more goals in the second and one in the third. Drake Nelson scored the Hodags’ goal.
Ashland outshot Rhinelander 29-22. Connor McGee made 22 saves in the loss.
Rhinelander (1-18-0, 1-8-0-0 Great Northern) will close out conference play at Lakeland on Tuesday night.
Gymnastics: Rhinelander 4th/9, Antigo Invite
The Rhinelander High School gymnastics team scored 122.7 points and finished fourth in the nine-team Julie Langseth Memorial Invite in Antigo.
Emeline Hintz posted a career high of 32.775 points as she finished 10th in the individual all-around. Her day was highlighted by a sixth-place finish on floor exercise (8.7). She led the Hodags in all four events, taking 10th on balance beam (8.325), 14th on vault (8.4) and 13th on uneven bars (7.35).
Addison Fish was 15th in the all-around, Marsadies Williams finished 19th and Alexis Smith was 21st.
The Hodags are back in action as they travel to Minocqua Thursday to take on Lakeland/Northland Pines.
Girls’ wrestling: Rhinelander T-18th/31, Marshfield Invite
The Rhinelander High School girls’ wrestling team took 18th Saturday in the Queen of the Mat Invite in Marshfield.
Cassidy Lindner improved to 34-5 on the season with a fourth-place finish at 120 pounds. Katie Hazelton won a pair of matches and was eighth at 132. Miranda Daab took fifth at 235 and Skylar Leitl dropped both of her matches at 152.
The Hodags travel to Merrill for an invite on Tuesday.
