By Ardith Carlton of the Northwoods River News
Cash bond of $500,000 apiece for three Eagle River senior citizens has been set by Oneida County judge Mary Sowinski. Each is charged with one count of possession with intent to deliver more than 50 grams of Fentanyl.
Barry Clure, 69, Susan Cody, 74, and Patrick Menting, 63, were arrested Jan. 17 after a traffic stop in the town of Monico for the expired registration of Clure’s vehicle.
Each of the three faces a fine of up to $100,000 or up to 40 years in prison, or both.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office supplemental report submitted with the complaint, Cody told investigators the trio had travelled to Chicago to purchase “dope” from an individual there, and that she’d been purchasing illegal controlled substances from this individual for approximately 10 years. Cody stated she believed the substance was most likely fentanyl mixed with heroin.
The next court dates, adjourned initial appearances, have been set: Feb. 10 for Cody, Feb. 16 for Clure, and Feb. 17 for Menting. No contact is allowed between the co-defendants.
