Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 74, Wausau East 63

Devon Feck scored a career-high 30 points and the Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team held on to defeat Wausau East 74-63 Tuesday night at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.

Rhinelander trailed 49-48 with 11:20 remaining before Feck splashed three of his game-high seven 3-pointers during a 12-3 run that gave the Hodags the lead for good. East got to within five points with two minutes to play, but an Abe Gretzinger layup and a Feck and-1 restored the lead to 10 with under under a minute left.

Jatyn Barkus added 14 points and Gretzinger had 11 as the Hodags hit 13 3-pointers in the contest. Miles Casey paced Wausau East with 25 while Robbie Anguilli had 15.

Rhinelander (13-2, 7-1 Great Northern) hosts Antigo on Friday.

Boys’ hockey: Antigo 4, Rhinelander 1

The third period proved to be the difference Tuesday night Antigo broke a 1-1 tie and defeated the Rhinelander High School boys’ hockey team 4-1 at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.

Ethan Novy scored twice in the final period and assisted on a Liam Burt goal. Jack Turek had Rhinelander’s goal in the contest as both teams put 26 shots on goal. Connor McGee made 22 saves in defeat.

Boys’ wrestling: Rhinelander 40, Mosinee 36

The Rhinelander High School boys’ wrestling team won only one contested bout Thursday, but it proved to be the one that counted as the Hodags defeated Mosinee 40-36 in a GNC dual in Mosinee.

Ivan Loka rallied from an early 5-2 deficit to defeat Mosinee’s Jacob King by a 15-7 major decision in the 132-pound match. That proved to be the difference as the Hodags got forfeit wins from Noah Monk (113), Gage Anderson (157), Noah Leisure (165), Brayden Krieg (175), Dawson Sachse (190) and Brock Sternitzky (285).

The Hodags (2-3 Great Northern) travel to Antigo for a triangular with the Red Robins and Clintonville.

Boys’ swimming: Rhinelander 2nd/3, SPASH Triangular

The Rhinelander High School boys’ swim team finished second Tuesday night in a non-conference triangular in Stevens Point.

The hosting Panthers outscored the Hodags 160-121 with Wausau East a distant third with 21 points.

Dean Gillingham had a role in  three of Rhinelander’s four wins on the night. He claimed the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly and was also on the winning 400 freestyle relay with Kellen O’Malley, Judson O’Malley and Charlie Antonuk.

Judson O’Malley won the 200 individual medley and was second in the 100 backstroke, Charlie Antonuk added runner-up finishes in the 50 and the 100 freestyle, and the Hodags added a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle relay.

The Hodags will host Medford and Shawano/Seymour in their home finale for the season on Thursday.
