RHS Sports recap: Monday, Jan. 26
Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 90, Tomahawk 25
The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team made short work of Tomahawk Monday night, dispatching the Hatchets 90-25 in GNC play at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
The Hodags opened the game on a 28-3 run and never looked back, pushing the lead to 53-10 at halftime.
Seven different players scored at least eight points for Rhinelander, led by Jatyn Barkus with 16. Abe Gretzinger had 15, Evan Shoeder had 10 and Devon Feck, Rowan Wiczek, Vince White and Tommy Eades had eight each as the Hodags shot 59% from the field.
Logan Norman led Tomahawk with 11 points.
Rhinelander (12-2, 7-1 Great Northern) hosts Wausau East in non-conference play in Tuesday.
Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 72, Tomahawk 33
The RHS girls’ basketball team pulled away from Tomahawk on Monday, defeated the Hatchets 72-33 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
After spotting the Hatchets an early lead, Rhinelander closed the first half on a 26-6 run to take a 34-15 lead at the half. The Hodags then used a 25-4 run in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Teagan Clark had 30 points for Rhinelander while Aubryn Clark had 21 and Vivian Lamers chipped in 14. Freya Alberg left Tomahawk with 16 points.
Rhinelander (8-9, 5-4 Great Northern) hosts Antigo on Friday.
