RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Jan. 15
Boys’ hockey: Lakeland 10, Rhinelander 0
The Rhinelander High School boys’ hockey team lost at home to Lakeland 10-0 on Thursday.
The T-Birds scored four times in the first period, once in the second and tacked on five in the third, while Rhinelander was shut out for just the second time this season.
Shots were 38-25 in favor of Lakeland. Connor McGee made 28 saves in defeat.
Rhinelander (0-14-0, 0-7-0-0 Great Northern) travels to Marshfield on Saturday.
Boys’ wrestling: Lakeland 58, Rhinelander 23
Lakeland reclaimed the Handrick Hammer from Rhinelander, winning six of eight contested bouts in a 58-23 dual meet win over the Hodags Thursday night in Mincoqua.
Rhinelander got a technical fall from Ivan Loka at 132 points and a pin from Anthony Boldt at 150. Hoyt Dantoin (138) and Avrom Barr (144) added forfeit wins for Rhinelander.
Rhinelander travels to Weston High School for an invite on Saturday.
Boys’ swimming: Rhinelander 121, Shawano/Seymour 49; Rhinelander 124, Tomahawk 38
The Rhinelander High School boys’ swim team took both ends of a double dual, defeating Shawano/Seymour 121-49 and Tomahawk 124-38 Thursday night in Shawano.
The Hodags won nine of the 11 events overall. Dean Gillingham and Judson O’Malley were four-event winners for the Hodags while Charlie Antonuk was a part of three wins.
Gillingham won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke; O’Malley took the 50 and the 100 freestyle; Antonuk claimed the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke and the Hodags won all three relay races.
Rhinelander is back in action Friday night in the Appleton North Invite.
