RHS Sports recap: Tuesday, Jan. 13


Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 67, Lakeland 52


The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team found separation late in the second half on Tuesday as it defeated Lakeland 67-52 in Minocqua. 


Tied 27-all at halftime, Lakeland went up 35-29 early in the second before Rhinelander answered with a 24-5 run to take control.


Devon Feck — despite not making the team’s first 3-point until 7:30 remaining in the second half — still finished with 20 points to lead the Hodags. Rhinelander had four players in double figures. Jatyn Barkus had 15, Abe Gretzinger had 14 and Evan Shoeder added 12 points and 14 rebounds. 


Jackson Burnett scored 26 to lead Lakeland. 


Rhinelander (9-1, 5-0 Great Northern) hosts Mosinee in a battle of GNC unbeaten Friday night.


Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 53, Lakeland 29


The Rhinelander High School girls’ basketball team buckled down defensively in the second half, holding Lakeland to just eight points over the final 18 minutes, as it pulled away to a 53-29 win Tuesday night in Minocqua.


Rhinelander only led by three in the final moments of the first half before Aubryn Clark was fouled as she made a corner 3 just before the buzzer. She also made the free throw to complete the four-point play as Rhinelander took a 28-21 lead to the break. 


Aubryn Clark finished with a game-high 22 points while Teagan Clark and Vivian Lamers scored 13 each for Rhinelander. 


Ava Evenhouse led Lakeland with 12 points.


Rhinelander (7-6, 4-2 Great Northern) travels to Mosinee on Friday.
