RHS Sports recap: Saturday, Jan. 10
Boys’ swimming: Rhinelander 7th/15, Ashwaubenon Invite
The Rhineladner High School boys’ swim team secured nine top-10 finishes Saturday as it finished seventh in the 15-team Jaguar Invite in Ashwaubenon.
Dean Gillingham, Judson O’Malley and Charlie Antonuk played a role in eight of those top 10s. Gillingham was the runner up in the 200 individual medley and took fourth in the 100 breaststroke; O’Malley was fourth in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 100 backstroke; Antonuk was eighth in the 100 butterfly and ninth in the 50 freestyle and all three were part of the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay squads that finished fourth.
Rhinelander added a seventh-place swim in the 400 freestyle relay with Kellen O’Malley, Elias Simonsen, Chris Larson and Daniel Meier.
The Hodags return to action Thursday as they face Shawano/Seymour and Tomahawk in a double dual in Shawano.
Wrestling: RHS girls T13th/26, boys 23rd/27, Merrill Invite
The Rhinelander High School girls’ wrestling team took 13th and the Hodag boys were 23rd Saturday in the Bluejay Challenge in Merrill.
Cassidy Lindner (22-3) wrestled to a runner-up finish at 120 pounds on the girls’ side, Miranda Daab was fourth at 235, Skylar Leital was seventh at 152 and Katie Hazelton took eighth at 132.
Avrom Barr and Gage Anderson scored the best finishes for the Hodag boys, finishing 10th at 144 and 157 pounds, respectively.
The Hodag boys return to action Thursday in a double dual against Elcho and Lakeland in Minocqua while the Hodag girls will take part in a match at Lakeland on Monday.
