RBA 8th grade boys win Crandon tournament
The Rhinelander Basketball Association’s eighth-grade boys’ basketball team won its pool in the Crandon You Basketball tournament Sunday, Jan. 4. The Hodags defeated Menomonie Nation 36-13, Crandon 56-8 and Laona/Wabeno 48-11 to win the tournament.
JV gymnasts compete twice
The Rhinelander High School gymnastics team scored 84.5 in the JV division of a GNC Small dual against Ashland, which did not have any JV athletes, Tuesday at the Beck Family YMCA.
Olivia Ruetz competed in all four events on JV. She was tops for the team on floor exercise (6.8) and scored a 23.15 in the all-around. Lexi Skubal won the JV vault (7.5) while Alexis Smith claimed the JV beam competition (7.45) and Sam Aschenbrenner was tops on uneven bars (4.9).
June Chiamulera was the runner-up on both vault and floor, Koda Kondell took second on beam and Ruetz was the runner-up on bars.
The Hodags competed in the Charlie Martin Invite Saturday, Jan. 3 in Wisconsin Rapids, where they were fourth in the JV division with a score of 76.25. Rhinelander had seven different athletes compete on JV in at least one event, though none did the all-around. Ruetz had the team’s top scores on floor (6.2) and beam (6.8), Smith was tops on uneven bars (5.8) and Chiamulera had the high score on vault (7.2).
