Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 64, Merrill 26
History was made Friday night as Aubryn Clark became the sixth player in Rhinelander High School girls’ basketball history to reach 1,000 career points in a 64-26 victory over the Merrill Bluejays at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
Clark, who entered the night needing 15 points for 1,000, scored 16 in the game — recording the milestone basket on a transition finish off a steal with 5:10 remaining in the first half which put the Hodags up 41-12 at the time.
Teagan Clark, Aubryn Clark’s younger sister, scored a game-high 18 points — all in the first half — as the Hodags led 48-15 at the break. Vivian Lamers added 14 points for Rhinelander and Lexi Beran finished with a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Kaela Clerveaux and Brenna Jirovec each scored seven to lead Merrill.
Rhinelander (6-6, 3-2 Great Northern) heads to Lakeland on Tuesday.
