Beck Family YMCA offers ‘Actively Aging’ balance training program

The Beck Family YMCA in Rhinelander is offering a new small-group exercise program designed to support healthy aging and improved balance. “Actively Aging: Balance Training Combo Class” will be led by retired physical therapist John Sykes, who brings more than 40 years of experience helping individuals improve motor skills and recover from injury or surgery.

This six-week Combo Class focuses on educating participants about balance, teaching foundational skills, and developing a personalized home program to maintain and improve balance. As the class progresses, participants will advance to more dynamic movements with an emphasis on functional, real-life balance activities.

The program is designed for healthy older adults who do not have a strong history of falls (defined as fewer than three falls in the past year) and who are not currently receiving skilled therapy for fall prevention.

Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 13 through Feb. 19, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The fee is $15 for YMCA members and $50 for the general public. Space is limited, and advanced registration is required.

To register or for more information, call the Beck Family YMCA at 715-362-9622 or contact Marilyn Duschl at 715-362-9622, ext. 118.
